From shared workspace to trusted partner: How PragmaFlow connected with Mission.dev
Sometimes the most significant business opportunities don’t begin with a strategic plan. Sometimes they begin with a question, a conversation, and a willingness to explore the unexpected.
When people talk about business growth, they often focus on milestones: new clients, major contracts, expanded teams, or increased revenue.
What receives far less attention are the seemingly unrelated decisions that create the conditions for those opportunities to emerge.
For PragmaFlow Founder and CEO Steven McKeown, one such decision had nothing to do with software development, recruitment, or business growth. It began with a deeply meaningful and personal desire to better understand how to support his young children as they prepared for the future.
Like many parents, he spends time thinking about what success might look like for them as they eventually enter the workforce. Wanting to understand how workplaces can better support neurodivergent individuals, he partnered with the LINKS Program through the English Montreal School Board, welcoming student interns into PragmaFlow through the school’s WOTP (Work Oriented Training Path) program.
The experience proved valuable, not only for the students but also for the company.
As PragmaFlow continued to support the program, McKeown determined that a dedicated office environment would help create a more structured and supportive workplace experience. It was then that the company began looking for office space.
That search led to an unexpected discovery and brought PragmaFlow to our Montreal office, where they moved in to share the space with us.
At first, McKeown assumed Mission.dev operated as a consulting organization. As often happens when entrepreneurs share space, casual conversations, and shared coffee breaks quickly turned into discussions about business challenges, opportunities, and talent.
From shared workspace to strategic partnership
Those conversations eventually revealed what Mission.dev truly offered: an agile approach to engineering capacity acceleration, helping companies rapidly deploy vetted, specialized expertise without the drag and overhead of traditional recruitment processes.
It was knowledge that would soon prove valuable.
The Challenge: Finding highly specialized talent at speed
At the time, PragmaFlow was pursuing complex initiatives in an exceptionally specialized technical environment tied to a major space technology company. Success depended on securing highly specialized expertise, technical adaptability, and the capacity to rapidly ramp up on domain-specific requirements.
Finding that kind of talent is rarely simple.
Previous outsourcing attempts through broad gig platforms proved inefficient for such high-stakes work. The team specifically needed an engineer capable of quickly mastering domain-specific aerospace requirements without a lengthy onboarding proce
The Mission.dev difference
Mission.dev replaced the guesswork of traditional hiring with a curated shortlist of four highly qualified, vetted candidates. Rather than sifting through endless applications, PragmaFlow focused on selecting from a group of professionals already screened for both technical aptitude and the specific mindset needed for complex aerospace software development. Mission.dev further acted as a force multiplier by handling the administrative burden of contractor management, allowing the PragmaFlow team to stay focused on delivering high-impact solutions for their space technology clients.
The impact was immediate and meaningful.
The embedded engineer brought the exact technical foundation required to streamline onboarding, deliver high-impact contributions quickly, and solve complex technical bottlenecks that would have otherwise delayed progress.
The resulting work supported PragmaFlow’s efforts in delivering solutions for a major space technology company and helped position the organization for future opportunities.
For McKeown, the story extends beyond talent acquisition—it reflects a series of connected decisions that yielded unexpected outcomes.
Exploring workplace inclusion led to a partnership with a special-needs education program, which prompted an office search, a chance encounter with Mission.dev, access to specialized technical talent, and ultimately sustained company growth.
Rather than mere coincidence, this sequence demonstrates that growth often stems from curiosity and an openness to unexpected opportunities beyond immediate strategic goals.
PragmaFlow’s partnership with Mission.dev exemplifies this principle.
What started as a shared workspace grew into a trusted partnership.
Mission.dev made it easy to find specialized talent in a highly niche market. They took the time to understand what we needed, delivered a shortlist of strong candidates, and helped us find someone who became a key contributor to a critical project. Their team removed much of the complexity from recruitment and contractor management, allowing us to focus on building solutions and growing our business.

Looking ahead: A partnership built on trust
Today, PragmaFlow continues to work with Mission.dev when highly specialized technical talent is required. The relationship persists not because of a single successful placement, but because of the trust established through consistently understanding the company’s needs and helping solve complex hiring challenges.
In an industry often defined by transactions, it serves as a reminder that the strongest partnerships are frequently built through something much simpler: genuine relationships, shared curiosity, and a willingness to explore where a conversation might lead.
Ultimately, the engagement reinforced PragmaFlow’s ability to take on complex, niche-market projects with greater confidence.
